The Artist: Clive Lewis is a Guelph, Ontario artist and printmaker. His love of Georgian Bay and of his rural roots shows up often in his work, primarily engravings.
While studying at The Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Clive became interested in typography and letterpress printing and for a few years worked extensively with old wood and lead type. When a friend asked him to illustrate a poster in the late ‘80s he began to engrave, and found a new passion.
His work encompasses both landscapes and more abstract concepts, all of which utilize the expressive lines and solid ink coverage that engraving and relief printing offer. His work has been described as being “strong and evocative and beautifully executed.” Clive’s work is in collections worldwide.
