Manitoba Maple is known for its interesting swaths of red within its graining. The artist has used this natural beauty for the benefit of this sculpture called HERON. A piece that can be interpreted in many ways, the artist saw a heron in the root and trunk of this piece. Handsomely finished and mounted on walnut, this sculpture will hold a special place at home, at the cottage, or in the office.

Size: Total height 33" x approximately 21" wide. Available in the gallery only, Cedar Lake Studios, 27 Ainslie St N, Cambridge, ON

The Artist: Neil Mark, an artist, and a farmer, is the sixth generation on his family farm, north of Lake Scugog. Neil uses his deep love of trees and nature to sculpt mesmerizing sculptures. Working with the natural appeal of the wood itself, Neil uncovers the beauty in every piece, transforming it from an unassuming piece, discovered in the forest or in the field, to a work of art. When Neil is not creating his own pieces, he is working on pieces of walnut, spalted maple and Manitoba maple that become either “canvases” for Hannah Mark’s (daughter) animal paintings, or a base for the steel creations of Cathy Mark (wife). You never know what wonderful new collaboration you will find at the Mark family farm and studio.
